Property Owner's Association Update
Posted on Oct 4th, 2009

The purpose of this email and posting on our website is to provide an update on the activities of our POA board and happenings in the neighborhood. Throughout 2009, the board has been meeting on a monthly basis. A list of our current POA board members is found on our website. The following items are being addressed by the board.

1. Home located at 8700 S. 8th St. – I am sure all have noticed the lawn at 8700 S. 8th St. This home is currently in foreclosure proceedings and is being taken back by the mortgage company. There are no documents attached to the house listing the true owner or who to contact. The board believes that we do not have the legal right to mow the lawn. We have contacted the City of Broken Arrow Action Center and have asked the city to have it mowed.

2. Contact with our City Council Member, Phil Tucker – Ken Neal and I have been in contact with our City Councilman, Phil Tucker. Ken contacted the board about issues on 9th street and the board delegated Ken to reach out to Phil Tucker. The issues presented to Phil included the number of sewer treatment plant signs, especially the one facing our addition when leaving on Quinton St. and the narrow and dangerous width of 9th street. On September 30th, I spoke to Phil about these issues.
a. Regarding the Sewer Treatment Plant sign: Phil presented a request to the city council that the sign be removed. The city council vote was 2 vs. 2 with rules stating that a tie is a loss. Thus, removal of the sign was voted down. Council discussion shared that the sign was placed when the city received calls from home owners that they were unaware that their property was near the City’s sewer treatment plant when purchased. Phil shared that he was surprised on the voting results and suggested that the POA return to the City Council after the first of the year with representation.
b. Regarding the dangerous nature of 9th street: Phil has requested that the easement of the road be widened and that a center line be painted with caution signs added. He shared that this work should begin near the end of the year.
c. The board will continue to stay in contact with Phil as his term goes to 2011.

3. Golf carts driving through yards – The board has been contacted by home owners who live adjacent to the golf course with an issue of golf carts from the neighborhood driving through their side yards to reach the golf course. Recent rains combined with our sandy soil have enhanced the damage to side yards. Craig & Karen Holman’s yard has had significant erosion with development of a large sink-hole. The board is requesting that all golf cart owners in the neighborhood avoid this practice and use streets and appropriate cart paths to reach the course. Thanks in advance for your help with this.

4. Architectural Review Committee – Members of the Architectural Review Committee have recently been able to develop a list of “Building Guidelines” for potential home owners and builders. The committee used our covenants and bylaws to extract the key elements and requirements necessary for builders to meet the necessities of our covenants. Once this list is complete, it will be posted on our website.

5. Landscape Committee – Members of the landscape committee have consistently worked all summer to maintain the beauty of our entry-ways through weed control and watering. You will soon notice a change in the entry-way flowers as fall flowers will be planted. Many thanks to Donna Morris, Kim Rutherford, and Janet Stringer.

6. Future Projects Committee – The board has formed a Future Projects committee to discuss and research future projects needed to maintain and enhance our neighborhood community. The committee is planning its first meeting and will soon share results. If you would like to share any ideas, please submit them via our website.

7. Neighborhood Street Lights – Recently, the board assigned Lynn Ruffin the duty of having the street lights at the west end of Shreveport St. repaired. Through much persistence and many phone calls, Lynn was successful in having these lights repaired. One light has not worked for several years. A huge thank you goes to Lynn for his work on this!

8. Nomination Committee and Annual Meeting for 2010 – The board has appointed Joe Sparks to serve as chairman and form the 2010 Nominating Committee. The committee will serve to nominate board members for 2010. Additionally, the board has selected, Thursday, January 28th, 2010 as a potential meeting date for our annual meeting. More information will follow.

Respectfully submitted,
